The Stealth Look on a VE/VF Commodore: How to Blackout Both Ends and Keep Everything Matching

Black LED Tail Lights – Fits Holden Commodore VE Sedan Series 1 & 2 (2006–2013)

A blacked-out headlight on its own looks good. A blacked-out headlight next to a pair of chrome-trimmed factory tail lights looks unfinished — like the build stalled halfway. The Stealth Look is our name for doing it properly: matching the front and rear treatment so the car reads as one deliberate build instead of a headlight upgrade that never got finished.

Here's how it actually comes together on a VE or VF Commodore, trim by trim, and which end to start with.

What "matching" actually means

It doesn't mean identical tint everywhere. It means the front and rear read as the same decision — both black-housing, or both smoked, rather than one blacked-out end sitting next to untouched chrome or clear factory lenses. A full Stealth build is usually: black-housing or black-projector headlights up front, paired with black or smoked LED tail lights at the rear.

VE Series 1 (2006–2010): the most complete Stealth build in our range

This is the generation where you can build the full front-to-rear look from parts we stock today:

VE Series 2 (2010–2013): more front-end choice, same rear lineup

Series 2 shares the Series 1 rear lighting options, but gets extra choice up front if you want DRLs built into the Stealth look rather than added separately:

VF SS / SV6 (2013–2018): front's ready, rear is still classic — for now

Being straight with you here: we've got a strong black headlight for VF, but not yet a black or smoked LED tail light to match it.

If you're building a VF and want the full front-to-rear Stealth Look, black headlights alone still make a real difference — plenty of VF owners run exactly this and it reads as a clean, deliberate front-end change rather than half-finished. We're expanding our smoked/black VF tail light options and will update this guide when they land.

Which end to do first

If you're building it out over two paydays rather than one order, start with the headlights. They're the more dramatic change per dollar — it's the mod that gets "did you change the whole front bumper?" from people who see the car from across a car park — and on VE, they're a straightforward bolt-in swap. Tail lights are usually a quicker job once you're doing them (fewer connectors, easier access), so they're a good second step once the front's sorted.

Three things to check before you order the full set

  1. Confirm your series before ordering anything. VE Series 1 and Series 2 headlights aren't interchangeable — check your compliance plate if you're not sure which you've got (Series 2 landed in 2010).
  2. Decide sedan, ute or wagon before choosing rear lights — all three have different tail light shapes even within the same series.
  3. Order both sides even if only one end needs replacing, if you're doing this for the look rather than a repair. A black-and-chrome mismatch on one side is exactly what it looks like.

Every set — front or rear — ships with the same Fitment First™ call before dispatch as the rest of our range. If you're not sure which combination matches your exact build, flag it in your order notes and we'll confirm before anything leaves Melbourne.
